Tribe WINS!
Going to NYY up 2-0 yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus
Let's go D-Backs let's go *clap clap*

Let's go Diamondbacks! I may or may not have a substantial bet on them at 50:1, a bet I made preseason at the Venetian in Las Vegas.
One down, two to go. Brandon Webb is the man.
Power outage, part 3
Remember this? The apartment management called me and told me they'd credit my account for $427 for next month's rent.
Booya!
(Of course, the sick thing is that's not even half my rent in a 2 bedroom place in a non-desireable area of Seattle)
This is why I hate politics.
Hillary Clinton Proposes $5,000 'Baby Bond
“I like the idea of giving every baby born in America a $5,000 account that will grow over time, so that when that young person turns 18 if they have finished high school they will be able to access it to go to college or maybe they will be able to make that down payment on their first home,” she said.
The New York senator did not offer any estimate of the total cost of such a program or how she would pay for it. Approximately 4 million babies are born each year in the United States.
I read total idiocy like this and I wonder how the fuck the American people are so stupid to think that this could possibly be a good idea. It makes me really, really dislike Democrats for being even more retarded than Republicans, which is one hell of an acheivement in today's society.
If that story makes you angry, you probably shouldn't read this:
“I think it's a wonderful idea,” said Rep. Stephanie Stubbs Jones, an Ohio Democrat who attended the event and has already endorsed Clinton. “Every child born in the United States today owes $27,000 on the national debt, why not let them come get $5,000 to grow until their 18?”
And people wonder why libertarians like me and
ikilled007 have been buying gold and investing in foreign markets since 2001. This country is being run into the ground by socialists who have little to no grasp on the most important subject in the world: Economics.
I suppose none of this should be surprising, since every other major nation goes down this self-destructive path, but it pisses me off that I'm living here while it happens.
Indians in the playoffs
Behind the strength of two true aces, the Cleveland Indians are in the 2007 playoffs. This is a reality that I have waited on for many years - constantly saying that the team's youth and farm system would develop to a point where they would terrorize the AL Central. With the White Sox meeting the regression everyone knew they would (and I made a few bucks betting White Sox total wins under 88.5), the Tigers having slight injury problems and a low-OBP lineup weighing them down, the Indians cruised to the postseason after finally running hot and winning more than their projected standings would predict.
Sabermetricians and performance analysts often talk about how useless intangibles are; some choose to discount them entirely, while others acknowledge their existence but believe their effect is significantly less than any ESPN analyst would say. I fall into the latter category; as a baseball player myself, I know I perform differently in tougher situations.
Perhaps one of the greatest displays of character and toughness this year was in an Indians game where Sabathia was pitching extremely well into the 8th inning. He caught a sharp comebacker in the glove arm, recovered, and made the play at first base. Not two batters later, he took a ball off his pitching shoulder and made the same out. Manager Eric Wedge came out to inspect Sabathia and seemed ready to pull him for Perez, but Sabathia simply walked off the mound towards third base and refused to even speak to his manager, demanding that he complete not only the inning, but the game as well.
That type of fearlessness and endurance is indicative of a true athlete. In an age of pitch counts and bullpen specialization, it is indeed quite rare to see a power pitcher throw 230+ innings with no injuries.
Halo 3

I finally broke down and bought it today. I'm taking home some huge ethernet cables from work and I'll be online tonight after I renew my XBL subscription, watch my taped episode of PTI, and make some late snack food.
Basic Economics

I know one of you guys loves Thomas Sowell, but I can't remember who. It's either
thomasblair or
colinmarshall, or quite possibly both.
Anyway, I've been buying a lot of books lately to occupy my time at night before bed, and I picked up a copy of Basic Economics. I really enjoy it - it explains all the “difficult” concepts of economics extremely well to the layperson. I especially like that Sowell starts off with pricing theory and explains away the concepts of greed while simultaneously bashing central market planning. By tying all of those concepts together, he makes it clear that pricing is almost always a symbiotic relationship between consumers and producers and shows what a dismal failure socialism really is.
A+, would read again (and I'm actually not through with it).
