Casio Exilim EX-F1 - Do Want

I’m not much of a digital photography buff, but I am definitely in the market for an affordable high-speed camera. Prior to finding the Casio Exilim EX-F1, the only other high-speed cameras that do up to 300 FPS cost well over $5,000 used.

Casio60fps

It does up to 1200 FPS (albeit with poor resolution) and only costs ~$950 from various Internet retailers. This would be a huge help with analyzing pitching/hitting mechanics - during the pitching delivery, the shoulder externally rotates at higher than 600 frames per second, or twenty times as fast as the human eye can see.

Of course, I don’t have $950 to spend on a digital camera…

A job.

I am gainfully employed at Microsoft, at the Xbox Operations Center, through Volt (a contractor/vendor employment service). I start tomorrow (actually this morning) at 9 AM, and my future schedule is unclear. The job entails mainly level-2 technical work and support requests, which is easy enough, if not a bit mindless at times. The pay’s good, the benefits suck, and the commute will be awful if I’m driving over the 520 bridge, but Microsoft has their own personal Connector Bus services with cell links and WiFi on the vehicles, so as soon as I’m settled, I’ll be taking that.

It’s a bit conflicting considering my side ventures are going so well as of late, but I’m trying not to be blinded by short-term results. We’ll see how things are after a few weeks and decide if the position is right for me.

New Girl Talk Album - Feed the Animals

Buygt

Girl Talk’s new album, Feed the Animals, is sick as hell. Fans of Night Ripper will not be disappointed.

I have nothing else to say about it. Go get it. Now. If you don’t know who Girl Talk is, read the Wikipedia entry for Feed the Animals here.

The New Deal (Music)

51odDzNmgaL SL500 AA240

Wow, what a blast from the past. I was randomly looking through old music folders on my computer and ran across some MP3’s from The New Deal. Surprised that I still had them, I loaded them up into Winamp and had some great nostalgic memories from partying back in Willoughby during my college years. Anyway, for those who might be interested, The New Deal is a jazzotronic “live improvised breakbeat house” (their words) group that is supremely talented, blending Basement Jaxx-type techno with well-timed beatboxing and amazing percussion. Their first album is done without samples or sequencers, and Back to the Middle (the title track) is amazing and fast-paced.

Cannot recommend it enough.

Sigh.

‘The number of strikeouts per at-bats is problematic right now for playing time.’
–Rockies manager Clint Hurdle, on infielder Ian Stewart.

If you say so.

Reality: It’s a bitch.

“I have a tough time pinpointing this thing. We’ve turned over every rock to correct this thing. Unfortunately, we’ve also turned over every rock to lose.”
–Mariners general manager Bill Bavasi

“Who plays the game? He put together a team that everyone across the country thought would be a contender.”
–Putz, on his team’s general manager.

Sometimes you wonder how these people continue to have jobs.

Oh, and:

“When you can get a reliever with a power arm who’s on a relatively short course to the major leagues, it makes it very, very attractive. I think we all know that strong bullpens make it a lot easier for starting staffs.”
Bob Fontaine, director of Mariners scouting, on selecting reliever Josh Fields with his team’s first-round draft choice.

LOL Mariners.

Fun with Wrist Weights

Wwmaxline

Yes, I do these on a daily basis. Outside. At the park.

Yes, I get weird looks.

But hey, I have a better fastball and can throw every day without pain because of it!
